Sometimes when you feel as if you have nothing to wear but don’t want to spend more on another outfit, the best fix is to go into your closet and reexamine what you have. I think sometimes people stress over buying a new outfit for every occasion; however that is not always necessary or practical. Reinventing your closet with pieces you already have can be a breeze if you pair it with the right accessories. So this holiday season, ease your styling dilemma with a creative spin by looking again at what is already right in front of you.
Today, I want to share with you two looks that I created with this navy cocoon coat and simple lace shift dress that everyone probably owns. I love a great lace dress because it is so elegant and versatile for any occasions and suits all shapes and sizes (1). I especially however, love a great shift or a-line form because it allows you to style it more easily with stockings, long boots or with belts. Since this style “downplays and sometimes conceal the feminine curves”(2), it can be slightly unflattering for some shapes. However, the trick is to import and introduce the use of belts to create shape and dimension in an otherwise lost situation. For look 1, I cinched the belt over the dress and coat for a cozy elegant attitude and for look 2, I belted the dress and left the coat undone to evoke a laid-back but luxurious aplomb.
Look 1- Cozy Elegance
Look 2- Laid-back Luxe
As mentioned, the trick and solution to creating an effortlessly chic wardrobe is pairing your staples with great accessories. Using yet another piece from Olivia Palermo x Baublebar collaboration, this North Star brooch set is simply divine. I thought it was such a clever way to use brooches because with mix and match designs, you can create endless looks. It can be pinned onto sweaters, purses or in my case at the collar of my coat to amp up my outerwear. Since these two pieces aren't that sizable, its perfect as understated detail to refine any outfit. I also embraced these ear cuffs with a similar tone for a unexpected but seamless mix. For versatility, I included this velvet statement belt in black for added interest and statement making significance. Lastly, final touches of glamour with an oversize cocktail ring, a quilted black clutch and pave two toned t-strapped heels to achieve that ultimate party confidence.
Thanks for reading and I hope you can step into your closet and come up with new looks for your many holiday commitments. Until next time stay glam and chic- xoxo Spirit
