Evoking a sense of delicate cozy and warm elegance, the poncho is a chic piece that every girl should own. Versatile enough to be paired with anything, the poncho becomes a great outer garment for your everyday casual wear (1). However, if you also want a perfect complementing piece for the evening, the poncho can become that go-to attire and fulfill those occasions when you need to cross the line between casual and chic (2).
Traditionally a South American piece, its blanket-like features consist of vibrant colours, luxurious fabric and intricate details (3). Overtime as designers adapt the conventional colours and pattern, the poncho has transitioned into a article of clothing that can be styled in a variety of different ways. My favourite way to wear this style is in an open face form where it exposes your well layered outfit underneath. In wanting to capture an everyday chic essential vibe, I paired it with the classic plaid, a brown turtleneck and dark washed denim culottes to elevate the outfit into a trendsetter's dream. In a previous post, I talked about the versatility of these "trouser of the moments and demonstrated again on how it can become your new favourite staple from fall to winter.
Since the poncho takes its inspiration from South American culture, I wanted to retain that familiarity and attitude. By incorporating a embroidered fringe chain bag and turquoise ring, the look instantly reminded me of Mexico. To bring the look back to reality, I added tan suede ankle booties for comfort, colour balance and appropriateness for fall. A great accompaniment itself, this sweater poncho serves to be a truly adaptable and functional attire for all your expected and unplanned affairs.
Thanks for reading and I hope you will try this spirited look out!
Until next time, stay chic and glam
