New York Fashion Week is ending today and I have been enjoying all the shows via my favourite bloggers on Snapchat. It took me awhile to get on the Snapchat bandwagon but now I am totally hooked and me and my girlfriend have been obsessing with all the filters and behind the scene access to the shows. My favourite has been Marchesa (ethereal as always), Michael Kors (Oh the feather details!), Anna Sui (psychedelic 60's) and the finale of NYFW with Ralph Lauren (love the neutrals) and Calvin Klein (super edgy). I also love the setup with Thom Browne and the presentation of Mansur Gavriel and Brother Vellies. What sets New York apart is that it showcases designers from all ends of the spectrum from street, contemporary to Oscar worthy dresses. I feel as if the shows are more fun and vibrant and the show-goers seems to have a good time watching despite the painstaking cold weather in the East Coast. I hope one day I would be there to suffer the cold and sit front row to admire all the sparkling clothes and accessories. Sigh.. A girl can dream right? But for now lets go back to reality and talk about an important winter essential- the turtleneck.
Next to a good coat, this cold weather classic (1) is my best friend during the gloomy winter months. Just like a good t-shirt, a great turtleneck can transform your ensemble entirely and allows you to stylishly keep warm. I usually prefer the thinner turtlenecks over the chunkier knits for layering purposes and the ability to transition easily when I am indoors. Since it hasn't been that cold, I was able to pair a delicate navy turtleneck with a navy pea coat under this plaid herringbone heritage dress which is feminine, super comfortable and great for brunch or a casual family gathering. Style Tip: For a NYFW inspired look, you can layer a neutral turtleneck under a white shirt dress, throw on a oversized shearling coat with one shoulder down and finish off with a daring pair of faux python chunky knee high boots.
This look was all about the dress and turtleneck so I wanted to pair this look with a neutral bag and some black ankle booties for a simple casual look. If you are going to go outside I also suggest some leggings or stockings so you won't freeze while peacocking the streets.
