Holiday dressing is usually dominated by lots of shimmer, sequins and sparkle; this year however, we see the emergence of another standout trend- Velvet! (1) As fashion's love affair with the 1970's continues, so does luscious fabrics associated with the decade (2). In collaboration with Foxy Originals, I wanted to create a charming yet seductive evening look with their unique and fun designs. A Canadian based jewelry company where each piece is created in their Toronto studio, I thought their Skye necklace and Darwin earrings would be the perfect fit to illustrate the elegant and regal nature of this fabric-of-the-moment! So this party season, don't fall into the same old routine and embrace velvet's opulent but understated versatility for an unforgettable and Foxy night. In most of the magazines or fashion websites that I have browsed for holiday wear, velvet attire is mostly in the form of a pant suit or jumpsuit. Instead of the "sharp, tailored, masculine form"(3) that we are used to, I thought this off-the-shoulder shift dress would be a "softer" alternative. Incredibly chic and elegant, this mini dress reveals just the right amount of skin for a sophisticated sexiness appropriate for work or a more upscale cocktail party at the art gallery for example. Throw a tailored wool check coat over the plush velvet and you got a modern look that easily transitions you from one function to the next. Nothing screams 70's glamour more to me than black and gold together, especially against the comfort and plushness of velvet. When I opened and saw these two Foxy pieces up close, I was stunned at how well-made and easy to wear they are. I love how the Skye necklace drapes effortlessly around my neck as the five square gems sparkle delicately on the lariat. I have been searching for a great go-to long necklace for a long time and I was thrilled to have receive this one in the mail. As I am a huge fan of art deco pieces, I was equally excited to model these oversized Darwin studs which pairs seamlessly together with the necklace. Known for their clean lines, high quality finish and accessible price points- Foxy's goal to make every girl sparkle and shine without breaking the bank speaks very true to my own personal fashion mantra! With such visual contrast of gold and black, finish the look off with a pair of striking velvet embellished heels, party minaudière and smokey eye for a spectacular grand entrance. Thanks so much for reading! I hope you will rethink and embrace velvet into your holiday rotation and have people guessing and wondering about you all night long. Until next time stay glam, chic and holiday ready!
