Valentine’s Day always gives the perfect excuse to dress up and head out for a fanciful night in town (1). Whether it is with your significant other or even a group of friends, dressing for the Day of Love can be fun but sometimes limited to obvious colours or silhouettes. Unlike my last post where I celebrated Chinese Lunar New Year with a dress that deviated from the traditional red, I wanted to stay with the basics for Valentine's but shake it up with a feathery twist.
You can never go wrong with wearing red or something sexy for Valentine's but I find that it can be a little boring if you don't spice it up. So instead, I worked some fun feathers into my ensemble for a bold yet romantic take for this special occasion. To mix things up, I paired a body hugging red dress with a black feather-trimmed blazer and some polka dot tights to keep warm from the February weather. I still find that this outfit is alluring without showing any skin at all because red is such a sensual hue and the sheer leggings gives off a little mystery. I am not the biggest on mixing prints but I do love great textures and details that just elevate any outfit to new heights. Hence I was thrilled to have found this blazer by Lucy Paris from RevolveClothing, which was decent in quality but without the hefty price. I am always looking for a great feather skirt but decided on this feather blazer instead because I think I will get more use out of it. Not just for Valentines, this feathery jacket can be worn with jeans for a casual brunch or even to work with smart trousers and a button up shirt.
I usually would say mixing feather with feather is a big fashion faux-pas, but for this scenario I think it works well together because the jacket is simple and allows busy accessories to join in. At the same time I found the jacket, I also found this gorgeous peachy feather clutch with rhinestones from Anthropologie to match the blazer. This purse is great also for weddings, casual dinner dates or a formal charity gala where you need to add that extra something to make your outfit standout. And of course, I couldn't live without my Stuart Weitzman Nudistsong heels, these gold earrings and my new gold link bracelet by Kenneth Jay Lane from the Outnet (new favourite store!) which matches well with red.
Perfect for stealing glances and a few hearts while you are at it, ruffle up some feathers this Sunday for an unforgettable and romantic evening. Happy Valentine's Day!
