Fall is such a fashionable season because it is the time to infuse your best outerwear and layers together. This brings me to the forever classic trench coat which for many is an essential piece in their wardrobe. Originally developed as an item of clothing for army officers to use in the trenches of the First World War (1), it now stands as a one of those pieces that have outlasted warfare and became the ultimate fashion statement. It does not come and go like most trends, it is a piece that is both timeless and practical.
I got this trench coat about ten years ago and time and and time again I can pull it out and it remains modern and contemporary. That is the power of the classics. I usually like to leave the trench open to
reveal the clothing underneath. I think that way its more elegant and mysterious. I would suggest a belted look and popping the collar if you want to go for a throwback 70's feel.
Underneath the trench coat I wore a beautiful navy colored jacquard dress I got last November for a friends wedding. This look is perfect for a fall wedding as the color is darker and sexy but still classy at the same time. I also adore the fact that this dress has a built-in leather belt detail to define the waist. Whenever I purchase a dress, I always tailor them shorter to reveal more leg to offset my lack of height. I think it is very important to tailor your clothes to make it fit your body.
To match the dress, I chose a gunmetal statement necklace which I also got last year for New years. I adore gunmetal because it does not overpower your outfits. It adds a subtle delicacy that is both charming and graceful. Since my whole outfit is about keeping with the classics, I added my favorite quilted black clutch and sparkly sandals to elevate it to a nighttime look.
