Today's look was of course inspired by Valentine's Day coming up and what would be more fitting than creating a look featuring two of the most notorious love birds in American history - Bonnie & Clyde!
I was first introduced to this criminal duo when I heard Jay Z & Beyonce’s 2002 hit "Bonnie & Clyde", where I became fascinated with the beret. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were famous gangsters during the Great Depression era and were famously depicted in the Arthur Penn’s 1967 Classic. I am not too sure if the real Bonnie Parker wore a beret but in the movie, this romantic depiction of the Great Depression instantly became a hit and fashion statement (1). The use of the beret not only symbolized a woman in love but also represented a woman confident and in charge of her own life and destiny, despite the fact that she was a criminal. What I love about Bonnie Parker was that she was a strong female character during a time that was dominated by men. Much like the testing times today where we see old rules and traditional trying to make a comeback, women everywhere are refusing to revert to the old times where were seen as mere accessories.
When I received this burgundy coat in the mail, I immediately knew I wanted to incorporate this very French chapeau into my look. Not only does it instantly add glamour and elegance to any outfit (2) but we are going to see the comeback of the beret for spring 2017. You can wear it over any look for example, like a simple tee and jeans combo or something for a special occasion like Valentine’s Day. I also love the rich burgundy of this coat which not only kept me nice and warm while we were shooting outside but also paired nicely with the fun and quirkiness of the beret. Burgundy is a nice alternative if you do not feel like wearing the classic red or pink. I think the combo is very chic, sophisticated and perfect for a romantic dinner date. So come this Valentine’s Day, make sure to stay warm but fashionable and madly in love.
Thanks for reading and and Happy Valentines Day!
