Sharing with you today, a special shoot we took way back in May at the beautiful Vandusen Garden. Feeling like I"m transported to a set made for Alice in Wonderland, we came all this way for this flower pathway called the Labrunum Walk. The only time it is filled with these gorgeous array of colours and blooms, I thought it would be the perfect location to showcase a look inspired by one of my favourite childhood novel growing up- The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
A classic English literature about rejuvenation, magical realism and overcoming trauma (1), I became fascinated by the fantasy and mystery of gardens ever since. Hence, when I saw this red (almost orange) dress at H&M I knew I had to visit a beautiful garden to do its justice. This dress from the H&M spring collection was a hard dress to pull off for my figure because its very flowy and lacks shape. I find that it can easily swallow me if it wasn't for this structured embellished jacket that pulled the look together. Romantic yet bold, I think this combination works because the details and colours from the jacket complements rather than compete with the vivid fiery of the dress. The dress, tho loud has simple dot details that doesn't distract the eyes, allowing the intricacy of the jacket to bring it to life.
An elegant and fun look, I paired it with more dramatic accessories like these purple velvet embeliished heels and this luxe quilted bag. If you can't tell, I am attracted to anything with embellishments and I think these statement pieces are great to wear once and awhile for special events or occasions.
