Anyone that knows me well, knows that I love having colour on my nails. And since I have been obsessing over Olivia Palermo's collection with Baublebar lately, I thought it was only fitting to review and introduce her other collaboration with Ciaté London. Aptly name The Fashion Edit, Olivia as creative director handpicked each shade to mirror the four big Fashion Week destinations. Whether you are heading to New York, Milan, Paris or London this set will surely help you achieve a perfect front row look.
The very first thing that attracted me to this glossy holiday set is the beautiful packaging. Bespoke with gold lamê and scalloped details designed by Olivia herself, the set comes with four mini version of her signature and new collection with Ciatê. The first one is "Hutch" her classic statement red, second is "Napa valley" a gorgeous Bordeaux, third is "Brooklyn" a navy blue with purple undertones and finally "Sunday" her off duty nude from fashion week. Each adorn with a cute bow detail on a gold weighted cap, it claims that each polish is “formulated with an exclusive and advanced Dual Polymer Mesh Lock Technology that was specially developed to create a long lasting, durable [and] high-shine lacquer". Inspired by the wealth of Olivia’s fashion sense and style, these polishes are indeed true to her perfectly polished looks and New York heritage
I have to say that all the colours are extremely beautiful and each one is very wearable and holiday friendly. I also find that it dries very quickly and I can touch things gently within a few minutes. Her classic and signture red "Hutch" goes on quite well and even with one coat the colour is already very dense and opaque. I also love "Sunday" because the formula is wonderful and its just the perfect pinky white that is great for brides and "off duty" moments.
I was actually a little disappointed in the streakiness of "Napa Valley" and "Brooklyn" (brooklyn being the worse); however, once you put on another coat the finish is fine and quite nice. I think these two are actually my favourite because the colours are just so fall appropriate and is universally flattering. I also didn't like this mini version simply because the cap and brush is too short to achieve an easy manicure. I tried out the bigger version in Sephora and the full size version of her collection is much better. As well, I didn't see the high-shine finish in which it promised nor was it chip resistant. Perhaps I needed a better top coat because I find that it chipped away pretty quickly after a day or two.
This set is just wonderful for gift giving, trying out the colours and a great way to get familiar with Ciaté. If you are serious about just one colour, go for the full size version of "Sunday" and "Napa Valley" because you can probably achieve a great manicure at home with the elongated brush. I will probably be purchasing the full size version later and hopefully it will be much longer lasting.
