Did you know that honey can be used for more than just a way to sweeten your afternoon tea? I too didn't know the beauty benefits of honey until Wedderspoon contacted me about using Manuka to create a mask. Manuka is a special type of honey that comes from the Manuka flower nectar pollinated by the bees in New Zealand. Related to the Tea Tree plant, Manuka flowers has a very short annual bloom making it very rare and highly sought after (1). Commonly known as raw or unpasteurized honey, Manuka is ideal for curing sore throats, helping with digestive illnesses and for controlling the oils in acne prone skin (2). If you have struggled with acne like me, then I wholeheartedly recommend you try this messy but effective Turmeric and Manuka honey Face Mask and hopefully it can change your life as it did mine!
Commonly known as a spice in India for cooking, Turmeric is a powerful antibacterial agent that holds amazing medicinal treasures. From healing small cuts, burns and wounds, Turmeric is also known to have numerous benefits for the skin, hair and health (3). Together with Manuka honey, these ingredients infused with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging elements creates the perfect at home remedy to leave your skin glowing and youthful. Not to mention that it is super inexpensive and easy to make, I can't rave more about this mask to my friends and family. As someone that continuously struggles with bad skin, I find that this mask helps balance the ph, exfoliates, nourishes and brightens my skin while leaving it soft and supple. This mask also claims to fade acne scarring, however I find that the results are very slow and you won't really see the results for a long time. But despite that, I can honestly say that this is my holy grail and has truly saved my skin.
First mix all the necessary ingredients together in a small bowl and play around with the amounts until you achieve a mix to your liking. Next apply an even layer (avoiding the eye and mouth area) with a spoon or unused foundation brush to your face, neck, décolleté and even armpits for a more natural way to stay fresh and deodorize. After 10-15 minutes, I find that the best way is to wash off the mask with a dark towel or unused wash cloth in warm water first, then use a cleansing brush along with your favourite cleanser to get rid of the yellow residue once in for all. Warning: Due to the colour of the Turmeric this mask will get MESSY and STAIN, so remember to not wash your used towel with your whites. You can also use a makeup remover if needed. It will also stain your brush head so I suggest getting two brush heads -one for regular cleansing and one for this mask. Then after tone and moisturize as usual. Also depending on how much you make, you can store it in the fridge for up to a week and use the mask 2-3 times a week for optimal results. Immediately after the first use, you will see lucent and radiant skin and your quest for forever youthful and glowing skin will be complete. I can't STRESS enough on how important it is to use Manuka honey, instead of just the regular honey you find anywhere. Regular honey is really just sugar syrup and you won't be able to receive the medicinal benefits of the raw high potent Manuka (4). I like the Wedderspoon Gold which has a Kfactor of 16 to indicate that 75% of the pollen is guaranteed to contain pollen grains that are specific to the Manuka flower. Their products are raw, unpasteurized, non-GMO verified and packed and labeled in New Zealand to guarantee the best quality product.
