Adelina’s Bath Time Fun with AVEENO® BABY® This post was sponsored by AVEENO® BABY®, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Adelina turned 1 in June and I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you some wisdom I have learned through this amazing year of new motherhood. Now for those that don’t have kids yet or are still pregnant, you may not understand the importance of establishing a routine. When a baby is born their world is chaotic. Therefore, babies will thrive on anything that gives them structure, rhythm and predictability to understand their new environment outside of the womb (1) Today, I am partnering up with AVEENO® BABY® to share with you Adelina’s bath time fun. Hopefully it will help some parents-to-be and new parents establish a great bath time routine with baby, so both you and baby can enjoy a good night’s sleep!
Ever since Adelina was a newborn, AVEENO® BABY® has been our go-to baby care product! From their moisturizers to washes, AVEENO® BABY® is the #1 recommended pediatrician baby brand in Canada for nearly 60 years. I love how gentle yet moisturizing the 2-in-1 AVEENO®BABY® Wash & Shampoo is, with its natural oat extract to keep baby’s skin looking and feeling soft and smooth. The soap-free and hypoallergenic formula is especially great for newborns and babies with sensitive skin, like Adelina’s, and also lathers up nicely for a tear-free rinse and leaves a refreshing scent! What’s also great about this product is that is comes in a variety of sizes. You can use the original size for travel and keep the jumbo size with a pump (that is super convenient) at home.
As your baby grows, the bath time routine will change depending on their sleep time and level of activity. Now that Adelina is incredibly mobile, we have adjusted our methods from her first six months by switching from a small portable tub to the actual bathtub. Up until then she really didn’t have a specific routine, but now that she is older, I find routines to be more established and easier to formulate as she understands what these cues mean. Bath time isn’t just for the obvious cleaning; it signals to the baby that their day is coming to an end and is also an incredible bonding moment between a parent and child.
Before you start, it is important to gather everything you need for the bath and lay them out nicely on the bed or wherever it is safe to dress the baby afterwards. Generally, I recommend you go with two hooded towels: one to dry them first and a second one to wrap them in so they can stay warm (baby hates being cold, especially as an infant). I also love to put out the clothes she will wear, a small portable electric fan to dry her private areas and hair, her diaper and the AVEENO® BABY® Daily Lotion (which I just absolutely love; it’s the best lotion out there for babies)! I like to put the lotion all over (not the private area) but depending on where they are dry you can even put it on their bums and face, which we always do! This fast-absorbing and non-greasy formula contains natural colloidal oatmeal to help soothe and protect baby’s delicate skin for 24 hours! To be honest, I actually steal it from her and use it on my hands and legs when I feel dry and don’t have my other Aveeno lotions around
Now to the bath, I will usually start with lukewarm water and pour in the AVEENO® BABY® Wash & Shampoo for a little bubble bath so she can play. However, if we want just a quick routine then we skip on the foaming bath and just wash her hair and body…sometimes every day, sometimes every other day depending on how many time she poops, what she did that day and the weather (if she sweated a lot or not). I usually go in there with her in my bathing suit and she eagerly awaits as we undress her and leave her diaper until the very end (I’ve been peed on a few times so I highly recommend you practice this step). Then, I will put in her bath time toys so she can be distracted while I wash her hair. I like to start with her hair and then move onto the rest of her body and hands and feet (which are always super dirty). After the bath, as we dry her off and put on her clothes, she will start getting sleepy and we will begin our bedtime routine by reading bed time stories (she loves books) and feeding her milk. She will eventually fall asleep on her own and the day is finally done and we can go relax, work, watch Netflix and do some more house chores. Until tomorrow -- and it all begins again!
So, there you go! Adelina’s bath time routine is pretty straight forward and easy, but the most important thing to keep in mind is to use safe products because your baby’s sensitive skin needs special care every day!
